6 Reasons For Karaoke On The First Date
I was talking to a friend a few months back about where he should take this girl he was interested in on their first date. Obviously, karaoke was high on my list of suggestions. He shot that idea down so fast! He said it sounded awkward, embarrassing, and he didn’t want to put her on the spot. He even said karaoke is always a “first date fail.” I totally disagree, and here are 6 reasons why:
1. It’s a great way to break the ice. Let’s face it, first dates can be awkward. So why not embrace it? Instead of getting acquainted through the typical questions everyone gets asked a million times, get to know each other by rocking it out to some music! Trust me, a little eye contact while belting out “Livin’ On A Prayer” will break that ice real quick
2. You can learn a lot about a person by the way they karaoke. Are they daring? Are they self-confident? How do they deal with pressure? Can they loosen up and not take themselves so seriously in order to have a good time? And perhaps most important, do they have a good taste in music?! Kidding (kind of) about that last one, but karaoke really is a good way to learn about your date!

Kidding (kind of) about that last one, but karaoke really is a good way to learn about your date!
4. It’s an active date, but still allows you to talk a lot. At karaoke you’re dancing around, you’re having fun, but you still have chances for quality conversations between songs. Plus the fun and exciting (and often comical) atmosphere provides plenty of conversation starters!
5. You can do it together! Duets are powerful. If you don’t believe me, just watch the first scene of High School Musical – “this could be the start of something new”, people! But even if it’s not, duets are still a lot of fun.
6. It’s a chance to impress. If you’re a talented singer, you can wow your date with your amazing voice and ability to captivate the crowd. And even if your singing skills are less than impressive, you can still wow your date with your willingness to get up on stage anyways! They will appreciate your courage to try something new and your ability to let go of expectations and just have fun. Either way, your date is sure to swoon! Here’s proof.
Yes, there are ways karaoke on a first date could go wrong. If it’s just the two of you and you’ve never met, private room karaoke is probably not the best way to go – I’d stick to open mic. But if you’ve got a good group, then private rooms are a perfect fit. Thanks for reading, and we can’t wait to see you and your date at Heart & Seoul Karaoke this week!
